To paint a 3-room HDB flat, you will need at least 25 to 30 liters in Singapore.
How much paint is needed for each individual room? Below are the breakdown;
- Each Room (wall): 5 liters of paint.
- Living room (wall): 8 to 10 liters of paint.
- All ceilings: 10 liters of paint.
It includes the dining room, toilets (ceiling only), kitchen (ceiling only, assuming kitchen walls are tilted), storeroom, the 2 bedrooms, and the living room.
This does NOT include painting the balcony.
The above information is based on 2 coats of paint on all walls, and all ceilings use the same colour and using same type of paint. If you are using multiple types of paint with different colours, you will need more liters of paint.
Important Note: Some older HDB units may have a helper’s room, which was added years after the HDB building was completed. Or purchased an extension area from their original HDB layout. This extension is not included in the amount of paint.

Yes, it is cheaper if you know what you are doing, if you have time to paint your own house, if you have the right painting techniques, if you have a painting process in mind.
But, if you have no experience, no time to paint on your own, no process, and techniques, it will be best to outsource to the professional.
